WHAT YOU THOUGHT OF WHEN YOU DESIGNED IT?:

Had a lot of requests for the shortest possible performance fun boards, personally I find this board a challenge, but we continue to get great feedback, saying it’s a fast fun responsive board.

WHAT IT POSSIBLY COMPROMISES ON THEN?:

Not that easy to catch waves on, hard to jam the back foot into turns without drifting the tail, more suited to light footed tricksters, not suited to a powerful back foot style.

SHAPE DETAILS SUMMARY | DESIGN INFO

OUTLINE:

When on rail the board will pull a tight arc, due to its generous outline curve, which resembles other good small wave grovelers except we have cut off the nose and tail. This really reduces the swing weight, so it feels like it spins on the spot.

RAILS:

The rails are the fullest thickest in our shortboard range in comparison to its volume. The bottom rail has a defined bevel with a bit more edge up front, the idea being it’s a small wave board so you want it to skate along on top of the water. The board in general is super loose so the thicker rail makes it a bit more manageable.

ROCKER:

Medium, slightly flatter. With this rocker, the board carries into waves really well, keeps its speed over dead sections and catches waves easily. Additionally, it carries well in cutbacks on softer sections and is easy to crack into a tail drift.

BOTTOM:

Single concave. One problem with really wide tails and boards is it's harder to get them on the rail, the issue with a wide tail is the slippery feeling on the rail to rail transition. This is where you can go into an uncontrollable drift when turning under the lip at speed. One rail is engaged, then there is a brief moment where the board is flat before you can get the other rail in. With the concave you have one rail engaged, then as you transition onto the other rail, it bites and grabs with a more positive feeling.

DECK:

The deck is a fairly standard profile, with the overall board being a little thicker, this carries volume out to the rails in proportion, as well as into the nose and tail. This volume in general offers a level of comfort when paddling and catching waves, the first few strokes are not spent climbing out of the water.

FINS:

5 Fin. For top to bottom surfing the thruster will be the better option. As the waves get a little steeper and faster, switch out to the quad to hold a higher more direct line, or if the waves are flatter and more open with little chance of top to bottom surfing, the quad is also an option.

FINAL STATEMENT:

A fun small wave board that will allow interesting drifting moves.
