THE MOON TAIL is the step up of choice in the Christian Fletcher surfboards range, this board has quite a straight outline and very low rails which make it an amazing machine for locking into a line in some solid waves and making out alive.

You can still disengage the tail and throw some fins but this board definitely does like a little more juice.

Make that tricky section and thread some deep tubes today with the Moon Tail.

ABOUT THE BOARD

GENERAL GOAL | THEME OF THE BOARD:

A good paddler that sticks drops well and suits fast, hollow, waves.

WAVE TYPE | SIZE IT'S WORKING BEST:

Down the line waves. From head high up to 3 times overhead.

MANEUVERS IT DOES BEST:

Late drops, sliding into the high line and threading deep barrels.

SKILL LEVEL IT'S BEST FOR:

Intermediate to Pro. Anyone willing to attack the conditions it’s best for.

PADDLE POWER:

Above average.

WHAT YOU THOUGHT OF WHEN YOU DESIGNED IT?:

Christians main goal was to get in early in solid waves, stick a drop even if it was a free fall, hold a high line in a barrel and have enough speed to thread an exit.

SHAPE DETAILS SUMMARY | DESIGN INFO

OUTLINE:

Carries the width forward in the nose, clean more parallel curve through the middle into a wider moon tail. The width up front offers really good paddle power to get on the plane earlier, the straighter mid section just flys with max straight line speed, it carries the straighter line right to the tail, so it really drives out of the first bottom turn.

RAILS:

Step rails, more meat on the shoulder, really fine at the edges. The front rail is typically soft and tucked under, mid to tail rail has more tuck than usual blending into a hard edge in the tail.

The rails are like trainer wheels, it's so hard to make mistakes on this board. The thin rails drop in so responsively and engage into the turn, deep enough to give hold, but then you cant over cook a turn coz the thicker shoulder won't over bury. Slightly meatier rail than the Loose Juice, fuller rounder through the front 2/3rds of the board. This offers a smoother ride in light bumps and holds the vertical face better, plus it really sticks where it lands if you fall out of the lip.

ROCKER:

Typically a lot flatter than a board of comparative performance, maybe ¼” to ⅜” less in the tail, at least 1” less in the nose. But when considering how deep the bottom concave is at ⅝” the rail line resembles a typical performance board. The flatter rocker carries really well, paddles great and holds its speed amazingly without needing to pump to keep it going. It also gives you extra time to get to your feet.

BOTTOM:

Concave, Concave and more Concave. Seriously this board has the deepest concave you will ever see in a board. From nose to tail, as soon as you lean slightly to initiate a turn the rails are fully engaged and its changing direction.

DECK:

Very light concave under the chest area, through to very flat across the deck in the front foot, still relatively flat under the back foot, and pinching down in the tail. The goal being a bit more volume packed in, and a stronger shape, in case you get a wave on the head.

FINS:

5 Fins, Originally designed as a quad by Christian. I'm a thruster guy, so problem solved.

FINAL STATEMENT:

I really need to make the point that this board is a total package deal, like the Loose Juice, the combination of curves all work together. While it makes a solid step up to thread fast waves, it's also perfectly suited to someone who prefers to cruise and wants something that paddles well, keeps its speed and just gets used as an all round every day board.
