THE PLAYAR is a high performance design based on what some of the world's best surfers are riding when the conditions get a little more marginal.

If we’re being realistic here we don’t always get to surf world class conditions, this board is designed for those days when it’s a little softer but you still want to be able to attack the face with power and speed. With clean curves running throughout the board, you'll be able to draw some super nice lines on the face, with power and grace.

GENERAL GOAL | THEME OF THE BOARD:

A high performance, all rounder.

Small to medium waves that aren’t overly powerful. From waist high up to head and a half.

Clean power carves, roundhouse cutbacks, busting the tail out. General high performance surfing.

WHAT YOU THOUGHT OF WHEN YOU DESIGNED IT?:

This design was inspired by what Gabriel Medina rides. I got an opportunity to peruse one of his boards and it was a really simple board, with clean curves all round, nothing extreme, clean outline, clean neutral rocker, a little more volume through the tail. When you watch him surf, his style reflects these curves, clean flowing power surfing, of all the boards we have in our range, we just didn’t have a simple clean all rounder so it made sense to include one.

WHAT IT POSSIBLY COMPROMISES ON THEN?:

Not really any compromises, great performance all round board, just needs the right surfer, probably not the right board if you’re a little light on your back foot.

SHAPE DETAILS SUMMARY | DESIGN INFO

OUTLINE:

Clean constant arc nose to tail, rounded pin. Look at the overall plan shape and you see an outline that has a relatively tight arc nose to tail, even though it's clean. The length to width ratio still gives it a curve through the middle that matches our other high performance boards, so from either the first pump or the first bottom turn the board has great sensitivity, initiates turns instantly and has a very free easy pump action that helps the board go top to bottom effortlessly. As your weight transitions onto the back foot it will keep its drive and not overreact, but rather power seamlessly into the next turn, meaning solid on rail power surfing. Once you push past the natural arc, the tail will bust out with a predictable feel.

RAILS:

Medium rail thickness carries a little more volume through into the tail with a more noticeable tucked edge near the fins, opposed to a square 90-degree bottom edge. The front rail is fairly neutral, if you power into a turn and bust the fins free into a tailslide, that extra volume tail and tucked edge will keep the tail on top of the water, you can almost come to a complete stop and there is enough volume and tail area to push off and regain instant take off speed again.

ROCKER:

Full performance clean rocker nose to tail. With this amount of rocker the board stays nice and loose, super sensitive and fits into tight pockets, allowing you to attack sections at speed.

BOTTOM:

Single concave. The concave helps the inside rail engage earlier, initiating turns faster, while also directing water off the outside rail in a downward direction, applying Newton's 3rd law of physics.

DECK:

The deck roll is about standard, the board has some added beef which doesn’t fully carry to the rail.

FINS:

Thruster. For top to bottom surfing the thruster will always be the better option.

FINAL STATEMENT:

A good high performance board that suits power surfing with the emphasis on the back foot, this board is recommended for more advanced surfers.
